American Grown Flowers Week
Why American Grown Flowers Week Matters (and How You Can Support Local Agriculture)
This is the 11th year we’ve celebrated American Grown Flowers Week. This is something I feel strongly about and talk about as much as I can. Buy local as much as possible, especially what goes on your table, that includes flowers.
The first week of July, flower lovers across the country are invited to honor blooms grown on U.S. soil and the farmers who nurture them. But it’s about more than pretty petals—it’s about sustainability, community, and reclaiming a connection to the land around us.
Why Support American Grown Flowers?
You may be surprised to learn that approximately 80% of cut flowers sold in the United States are imported, traveling thousands of miles before landing in a vase. Those long journeys come with a cost: high carbon emissions, questionable labor practices, and flowers that lack the freshness and vibrancy of locally grown stems.
By choosing American-grown flowers, you’re supporting:
Small farms and local jobs that keep communities strong
Sustainable growing practices that protect soil and water
Shorter supply chains, reducing your bouquet’s carbon footprint
Fresher flowers that last longer in your home
At Farm Lot 59 and our flower shops, every bloom tells a story. From the tiny seeds we start in Long Beach to the bouquets you take home, our flowers are grown with care for the earth and love for our community. Why do they look so good? Because we curate the color palette. Why do our flowers last so long? Because we harvest every day, the only miles our flowers have on them are when you drive them home. Why are they so unique? Because we grow from seeds sourced from specialty seedsmen and seek out what’s rare and unusual. We plan our crops months, if not a year, in advance.

Let’s Celebrate Together
When you support local flowers, you’re not just buying a bouquet—you’re investing in the health of our environment, our economy, and our neighborhoods. This week, and every week, we invite you to celebrate with us.
Stop by either of our shops—we’re open regular hours—and bring home flowers that are as fresh and vibrant as the community we serve.
Together, we can grow local.
